HOW IT STARTED

“I was alone in the California desert with only my bicycle and camping gear when I first decided I wanted to pursue making a musical instrument.

The only problem was I had just embarked on a cross-country bicycle ride (spring of 2009), but found my heart wasn’t in it.

I sat on the side of a desolate stretch of desert road.

I couldn’t stop thinking about music.

After having cycled across the country in 2007, I knew I needed to pack it up unless there was total commitment.

I turned around with camping gear in tow.

Back to the San Diego Airport to catch the next flight back home to Virginia…

150+ Instruments Later...

“Thirteen years later, and still living in Crozet, I have been fortunate to have built over 150 musical instruments —mostly mandolins, but also octave mandolins, guitars, violins, banjos, lap steels, and others.

I take great pride in constructing each instrument to a client’s preferences and stylings to make that instrument a true representation of that musician. “

FULL TIME LUTHIER

To this day, the journey towards building and designing unique musical instruments continues.

The possibilities are endless.

Endlessly onward…

I take pride in trying to utilize domestic woods as much as possible. There’s something magical about being able to walk through the forests around us and then having the knowledge of turn those same species of timbers into an instrument that creates music. To know which woods complement each other to create that music.
