Frequently Asked Questions
I invite the client into the build process so that they are intimately involved in the creative design and build.
That’s a lot of what they will be getting along with their custom instrument: an experience.
Placing an order doesn’t actually take place until we’ve had time to email and discuss what you’re wanting out of your custom instrument. If, after brainstorming, we have achieved clarity of concept, then we proceed with a down deposit to secure a spot on my custom build list.
For custom builds, the starting base price is $4,000.
I like to have 2-4 months. A lot of thought and brainstorming goes into designing a new instrument. From drafting ideas, emailing clients, sharing details of the build and adjusting things as we go, from milling the lumber down and then actually building the instrument.
It’s very rare when I have to totally turn down a client because I don’t feel comfortable taking on their idea. So, most ideas, or some variation of the idea, is usually possible. I let the client know I won’t do things that I don’t feel comfortable making or incorporating or think is structurally sensible. The majority of clients are understanding of my perspective and expertise when it comes to final decisions regarding possibilities.
If someone has an idea for an instrument and is unsure if the concept is possible then just ask!
From time to time I’ll have one-of-a-kind, concept designed in-stock instruments.
Average starting price start: $2,500.00 (case included)
To reserve a spot on my build list, and to officially start the build process, I require a half down, non-refundable deposit. This secures your spot on my build list, covers initial material costs, labor costs, etc. The remaining balance is due just prior to finishing and before shipping.
